So it's the day of our first lives together as one! We wake up to find pouring rain outside! Family and friends are still at the house from the blowout reception that we had the night before. Shane and I have finished opening gifts, or me the night before, he was previewing. HAHA! We have 4 hours before our plane leaves in Memphis Tn. As usual we like to cut it short. There is a hurricane in Texas. No big deal we will make it!
We get to Memphis 10 minutes before the plane leaves, we can't board, however the "kind" lady behind the counter says she can get us on the next flight out to Houston. This means we miss our flight to Brazil, but gets us out of Tennessee.
We board the next flight and get to Houston to find it to be a "ghost town"! Only FEMA workers are there! Gees, what the crap is going on? All outgoing flights are cancelled due to Hurricane Rita. Yes, she was the one that was mad at Katrina for terrorizing New Orleans. UGH! Now what? We were told we had to sleep in the terminal until the next day to catch a flight out to Brazil! WHAT?? ON MY HONEYMOON? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Shane proceeds to go to the counter to let the lady know that we are on our honeymoon and he didn't care what it cost, she was giving us a room. So we ended up in the Presidential suite for the night, with vending machine food because everything was closed! The best fun we had in a long long time!! The next day we stayed in our room until they practically kicked us out. Our flight to Brazil was not boarding until 6:00pm.
This was the day that would change our lives FOREVER!! We were standing in line waiting to board, talking to missionaries on a mission trip. When I said, we are on our honeymoon and we are headed to Rio, a girl turns around and says "No kidding?? Us too! When did ya'll get married?"
Ends up, this is Susie and Tim Kush. They were married on the same day as we were. They lived in Duluth, Mn. We carried on our conversation until the plane boarded. When we landed we met back up at baggage claim and exchanged hotels. WOW! Can you believe it? We are in another country meeting people from Duluth that got married on the same day as us. Wonder if we will ever see them again. Pretty cool!
Long story short, the four of us hung out the whole entire time we were in Brazil. This made Brazil the best experience so far in our lives. We were as one now and had wonderful, amazing new friends to share it with. They had been together the same number of years as us, got married on the same day, their last name was Kush, and ours was King! FATE! That's all it could be! The Kushings had been created on those 6 days in Brazil!
Rio was awesome. Shane and I stayed on Copacabana beach in the Excalibur hotel. The weather couldn't have been better. HOT HOT HOT! We visited Sugar Loaf, Cornacova, The markets, the temples, the "poverty" housing with their fresh market. We ate delicious food at Impanema, with wonderful wine. For days on end we wanted Nachos! So we found a Hard Rock! There is where we learned more about our new friends. We exchanged stories and laughs. It was a great time. During the time we went to Copacabana Palace to eat. We had many courses of food and dessert. Very "top chef" treatment! We spent a good part of our time at the Horse's Neck bar @ the Sofitail hotel. This was Tim and Susie's hotel. We danced, we laughed, we played the piano~
Theres so much to tell about Brazil! The freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast, the 2-1 ratio on the dollar, speed driven taxi drivers, smashed potato balls, fresh fruit, 6 story shopping mall, carnival, REDBULL, Gracie school, everything shut down on Sundays, laughs, love and excitement!!! We will go back on our 10 year anniversary September 24, 2014!!
This trip changed our lives and we will never forget the FATE that came our way. With Tim and Susie now in our lives, things were just getting better! Shane and I along with Susie and Tim have told the story of our meeting over and over again and it keeps getting better every time we tell it! A Honeymoon is suppose to be a memorable time in your life. We made it just that, and brought friends home with us!
